The Biggest & Bestest Tree

Crisp pine needles crunch under my feet. The radio is blaring "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". The smell of pine fills the air. Color-coded tags wave in the breeze as they try to break free from the top of a tree. Ultimately, my senses are awakened as I jump out of my car and walk toward the place where the holidays begin for my family: the Christmas tree lot.

I absolutely love Thanksgiving, but I can't wait for the weekend that follows because I know what's on our family agenda. We will view each Christmas tree with a critical eye as we ponder such questions as, "Do you think this is too tall?", "I wonder if the gifts will fit under this one?", and "How much is that one?!" With all of the questions, one may wonder why we don't choose to have an artificial symbol placed in our family room each year. All I can say is that it's a matter of tradition. We've always had a live tree and, despite the constant clean-up (my vacuum cleaner is never really "put away"), I wouldn't have it any other way. Besides, what else would we do on the fourth Saturday in November?!

As a child, I remember playing with the model train that ran around the tree. When I was in college (40 miles away) I would come home to help set up the train. Now, I can hardly wait to go home to visit with my parents and play with the train all over again.

Great story. We ALWAYS decorate our tree the day after Thanksgiving (after we have been up shopping since 4am!). It just feels good to have that time and know that is what we are going to do. I love the holiday season!

After a wonderful Thanksgiving Day spent with family, it is always exciting to focus on decorating for Christmas. This usually happens on Friday afternoon. The wreaths are placed on the windows and the tree is decorated with country, family ornaments, even those created by my children when they were small. Those are my favorite treasures to this day. Of course there are additional little hands that are contributing these days, which include 7 grandchildren. Christmas is my very favorite holiday. I love the music, the decorations and of course the true meaning of the season, the birth of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas, ALL!
